Free literacy tools during COVID-19

We are gearing up to being isolated for a few weeks now and if your kids are anything like mine, they are getting bored with their toys and books at home. I have been integrating some online books to give them a variety of options. Here are two of my favorites! As a speech therapist I am in heaven over what these online tools are offering. My kids even like them…now that should tell you a lot:)

Vooks: This has been a fun site for my boys (age 5 and 2) to use. There is a large resource library of books divided into themes. They are interactive and according to their website “they bring storybooks to life.” You can sign up for a free 30 day trial.

Scholastic: As a speech therapist, I am in love with this opportunity from scholastic. They have daily themes with a fiction and a non fiction book on the same topic. They even have a related activity you can do at home! For example, one of the days was about bunnies. The activity that went along with the books was a movement activity where you place masking tape on the floor and see how many ‘hops’ it takes you to get to the other piece of masking tape. How fun!!! You are integrating something you learned about bunnies with concepts such as counting.
