I never once thought growing up that I would own a business. I never thought I had that skill set. Fast forward and now at 31 years old, I am a mom, wife, SLP that still works, and owner of a business. When I tell people about my jobs and my life, they look at me like I have three heads! I often get the response “how do you do it?”. In reality, some days are easier than others, but it works out. I have an amazing support system and the best YMCA membership ever (I get two free hours of childcare each time I go in, so I can get a work out in and a few emails sent off…it is such a life saver)!
The three most important things I have learned from being a woman and owning my own business are:
1. Feeling Empowered:
I am doing something I thought I would not be good at or able to do, and I am excelling and proving myself wrong everyday.
2. Getting comfortable with being uncomfortable:
At first I had to get pep talks from my husband to make phone calls to school districts asking if they need my services and now I just pick up the phone and call…what do I have to lose? It took a few steps to get to where I am at now, and I am nowhere near comfortable all the time, but I am getting there:) Small steps!
3. Having my boys grow up seeing that if you can dream it, you can do it:
By having my boys see me start a business and learn, fail, cry, smile, jump for joy, they too are seeing that if you put the hard work into something you’re passionate about, you can accomplish more than you thought.
Just remember, DREAM and go for it! Especially, if it is something that you are passionate about!
As always,
Thank you!
